$1000 To Be Awarded To Local Youth To Attend Technical School
Stoughton, WI - The Stoughton Optimist Club invites area youth to apply for our $1000 Scholarship to a technical (or two-year) college of their choice for the Fall and Spring 2012-2013 academic semesters.
Eligible applicants will be evaluated by the 2012 Stoughton Optimist Club Scholarship Committee and award based primarily on the applicant’s interest in advancing their education/skills, along with a letter of recommendation from a mentor. Any field of study or occupational education/training is acceptable, and the scholarship award is not based on household income or previous academic performance. The goal is to award an area youth with the majority of funding necessary for him/her to obtain necessary career-advancing education based primarily on their interests, related activities and a recommendation from a mentor in a related field.
Stoughton area residents age 17 – 20 as of September 1, 2012 and planning to attend a two year technical school (or 2-year college) in the Fall and Spring of 2012-2013 are eligible and encouraged to apply immediately. Application materials must be received by May 31, 2012. Complete details and the application are available online at http://stoughtonoptimist.org/scholarship.
The Stoughton Optimist Club has funded scholarships for area youth since the 1980’s. Previous applications and selections have been graciously coordinated through the Stoughton High School. By expanding our application process in 2012, The Stoughton Optimist Club hopes to encourage all area youth that would like to attend a technical school in the Fall and Spring 2012-2013 academic semesters participate, including area SHS seniors, area home-schooled students, existing technical school students and all other area youth age 17-20. Scholarship proceeds will be distributed in two equal installments of $500 each at the beginning of each semester.
